Winchell's Donuts is an international donut company founded in Temple City, California on October 8, 1948 by Verne Winchell and is currently headquartered in City of Industry, California. By 2006, there were over 170 stores in 12 western states, as well as locations in Guam, Saipan, and Saudi Arabia. A number of locations have been operated in Nagoya, Japan in the past most of which being located inside Uny supermarkets, due to the fact that Uny Co., Ltd. was the master franchise holder in Japan. With a slogan of "Home of the Warm 'n Fresh Donut," Winchell's claims to be the west coast's largest donut chain. The company also sticks by its 14-doughnut dozen policy, as opposed to the standard dozen of 12 or baker's dozen of 13 offered by their competitors.
